Microphone History:

The M582 preamplifier body might be considered a miniaturised successor to the CMV 563. It uses the same EC92 triode tube, although the circuit has abandoned the connection from the output transformer to the cathode in favour of a simpler circuit without such feedback. The M582 uses the same output connector as the 563, and also has interchangeable capsules which are screwed onto the body.

Our example is pictured with the M62 nickel-diaphragm cardioid capsule. It can also accept M58 and M70 capsules.

The M582 tube preamplifier was replaced by the transistorised M691 body.

Technical Description:

From the M582 brochure

The M 582 condenser microphone is a miniature microphone of studio quality. The corresponding M 58 microphone capsule, a pressure transducer with an omnidirectional polar pattern, is easily interchangeable. The microphone amplifier is single stage and has a low impedance, balanced output. The microphone is connected using the C 57 microphone cable. The cable length between the microphone and the power supply can be up to 100 m. The N 61 power supply unit is provided for power supply.

Condenser capsule M 58 is a pressure receiver with spherical characteristic. It may be screwed on the transmitter amplifier M 582.

  • Range of frequencies: 30 to 20,000 Hz
  • Transmission factor with M 582 about 1 mV/a bar
  • Capacitance: about 60 pico-farads
  • Diameter: 25 mm
  • Height 18 mm
  • Weight: 28 g

Condenser capsule M 62 is a pressure gradient receiver with a uniform directional polar response. As opposed to the other types of capsules, it has a metal membrane. The transmitter box M 62 is screwed on the transmitter amplifier M 582

  • Frequency range 40–18,000 Hz
  • Rear attenuation approx. 25 dB
  • Transmission factor at 1 kΩ termination approx. 1 mV/ μbar
  • Output balanced ≤ 200 Ω
  • Dimensions 25 x 157 mm
  • Gross weight 0.16 kg
