Microphone History:
Aiwa started producing microphones from the early 1950s. By 1956, the company was designated as a technical guidance factory by the NHK Broadcasting Technology Research Laboratories, reflecting the technical quality of it's products. Throughout the following decades, Aiwa produced various styles of microphones, with their ribbon mics aimed at professional and broadcasting use. The VM-13 was the second ribbon microphone Aiwa produced (1957), following VM-12 (1955).
Initial batches had the logo badge attached to the centre of the front of the unit, but it was later moved to the lower right corner of the front (see photo).
This model was designed to offer a reasonable price without sacrificing performance, while also being stylish, for broadcasters and radio stations lacking the same budget as NHK.
