Microphone History:

MoMics view:

The MR1 was a revised version of the popular RB model in a new body which may also have been slightly cheaper to produce. The MR models kept the tilting head mechanism but have a smaller transformer and flat, rather than curved grills. It seems strange in hindsight that despite the new design, Reslo persisted with using their own connectors when the rest of the world had moved on to using XLR or DIN connectors.

The data sheet for the MR1 is dated from late 1973 but this model does not appear in the Hi-Fi yearbook until 1974. The last appearance in that publication was in 1976, which indicates a brief four years of production.

Reslo ceased trading in 1978. However, a similar model MR1 appeared in the 1981 Hi-Fi Yearbook under the Coles brand. We know that Coles offered repairs for Reslo models and it seems plausible that Coles also bought some of their stock and intellectual property. Coles had previously acquired the microphone division of ST&C in April 1974.

Technical Description:

Frequency response: Smoothly maintained over the range 50Hz to 15 kHz, gently sloping upwards to 3 kHz, substantially level to 10 kHz then falling away to 15 kHz. Average values: 50 Hz -8dB, 100 Hz -6dB, 1 kHz OdB, 5 kiz +2dB, 10 kHz +4dB, 15 kHz - 4dB.

Signal Output: The average open circuit voltage generated by a male voice, 12 ins (30.5 cm) from the microphone in a dead room at normal conversational level.

MR1/L (30-50 ohms): 50 to 100 microvolt

MR1/MT (600 ohms): 350 to 450 microvolt

MR1/H (Hi-Z): 1.5 to 2.5 millivolt

MR. 1/H or MT (200 ohm connections): 200 to 300 microvolt

Polar response: Nominal figure of eight with rear lobe partially suppressed at the medium and higher frequencies to give a "cottage loaf" type of response. Average rear response at 500 Hz -3dB; 1 kHz -4dB; 3 kHz -10dB; 10 kHz - 14dB

Ribbon resonance: The ribbon resonance is set at 60 Hz ± 10 Hz
