This is an example of the early version of the Toshiba model G ribbon microphone, and is marked G-3 on the badge at the base of the microphone. This version has a mechanical baffle in front of the ribbon which changes the acoustic damping and thus acts as an adjustable high pass filter. The baffle can me moved via a small dial at the front of the grill, and its action may be seen in the animated picture above.

All of the Toshiba G models sound excellent and have good bass response for a fixed cardioid ribbon. Later models used an electrical filter in place of the mechanical baffle.
