Microphone History:

This is an old carbon microphone, nicely made in Bakelite, suspended in a hoop by four pieces of elastic. The design is based on the Marconi-Reisz transmitter and uses loose carbon powder packed into a cavity. Two carbon rods rods inside the microphone are connected to the screw terminals on the rear of the microphone. A mica diaphragm modulates the resistance of the carbon particles, producing an electrical signal from the impinging sound waves.

This microphone looks similar to models offered in the early 1930s by manufacturers such as Trix, Shaftesbury and Electradix.
