Microphone History:
MoMics view:
The Grampian GR1 and GR2 models were made between 1963 and 1978*, and are essentially the same microphone except that the GR 1 has some additional foam and paper padding to reduce sensitivity in the rear to give it a slightly uni-directional performance. The bi-directional GR2 model sounds very good. Both models were available in four different impedances at 30, 200, 600 ohms and high impedance (~50,000 ohms). These were identified by different coloured labels:
GR2/L: 30/50 ohms. Red label
GR2/X: 200 ohms, White label (?)
GR2/M: 600 ohms. Blue label
GR2/H: High impedance. Green label.
All these microphones used a custom output connector which is now obsolete and hard to find.
