"Type M.C.R. This is a standard type Moving Coil Microphone utilising a paper diaphragm and speech coil of aluminium wire, and is attached by a special non-distortion suspension system to a high flux nickel-aluminium magnet and cast metal case mounted in a spring suspension frame.

"Similar in appearance to when it was introduced 20 years ago, the Grampian M.C.R. moving coil microphone has been constantly modified in conformity with the latest technical developments. The magnet system, diaphragm, moving coil and suspension system have all been improved.
Ever increasing demand has enabled us to cut production costs, and allowed us to lower the price. If you want a robust, highly sensitive. fine quality microphone at an unusually reasonable price, then you too will choose the Grampian. And remember, Coronation festivities mean work for a "mike" - be sure it's a Grampian.

The coronation refers to that of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, and this tells us that the microphone was introduced in 1933. The corporation was a huge public event and one of the first milestones of British Royal pageantry to be broadcast live on TV.
