Microphone History:
The Valkyr was launched in 2018 as a stereo version of the already popular BM9 ribbon microphone. The Valkyr uses two identical matched ribbons that are fixed at 90 degrees, making it ideal for Blumlein recordings or Mid-Side stereo. It is designed to be quick to set up and record. The front (i.e. positive lobe) of the lower channel is identified by the orange badge and the front of the top channel is marked with a small indent that is (usually) infilled with orange paint.
All Valkyr models are supplied with Extinct Audio's own Fenrir suspension mount.
Early models were supplied with a robust plastic carry case, a 5 pin XLR cable and a breakout box to split the stereo signal into two mono channels. Current Valkyr microphones come in an elegant wooden box and a stereo cable that terminates in two mono XLR plugs. An optional Mid-Side decoder box is also avaliable on request, although most engineers would use a software plug in or an extra channel on their console to achieve the same result.
