Microphone History:
From the Schoeps website history pages
"The initial plan was for a partner company in Zurich to build matching amplifiers and accessories and to market the resulting sets. Then it was decided to design a better amplifier and to assemble and test everything at the company instead. The result was the CM 51/3 microphone.
The French broadcasting system tested two of these microphones in January 1952 and decided to equip all its studios with Schoeps microphones. Soon thereafter, Telefunken agreed to become SCHOEPS’ international distributor. These two successes occurred just in time to ensure that the company could continue to exist."
MoMics note.
Our exhibit is marked CMV 51/3 (rather than simply CM) and was acquired from a French collector. It may well have come from a French broadcast studio. It is fitted with a CM51/N capsule with a heart or kidney shaped symbol to indicate the cardioid pattern. This microphone sounds excellent with a full range, detailed response.
Technical Description:
- CMV 51/3 no.0312 Body with CM51/N Nr.0630 Capsule
- Cardioid polar pattern
The capsule is attached to the amplifier body with a small bayonet style fiiting, which enables the capsule to be easily swapped. The connection has a ball joint which allows it to tilt gently forward or backwards.
